Quick question for those that follow this blog

Obviously, this blog is primarily about the Free will game where I switch households regularly.

Should I also put in updates from my other saved games or just start yet another blog for that?  Cause I'm currently uploading the pics from the Sunset Valley game where a family has just had triplets.  Serious toddler taming in their future.

I'd consider posting in the forums, but it takes all of about 1/2 hour for your post to get buried 5 pages deep sometimes.

  1. For what it's worth, what I did was to create a separate blog that functions as a sort of table of contents page (http://suednim.blogspot.com/).

That way I can keep my games separate yet I have a place where I can consolidate updates.

You have more faith in the forums than I do. I'm giving up on them, as regards advertising my blogs or stories. I've yet to generate the slightest interest from there, yet the forms and the stories section are filled with legacy stories full of horrible writing, uninteresting content and butchered English, and those are the ones with 2500 views and 267 recs. Oops, got on my soapbox a little there. :)

  2. Hi you two. I would read your stuff anyway you post it. It might be less confusing if it was put on separate blogs. I know all about confusion since I am a master at confusing people.
It probably won't be long before I start playing a different way. I'll probably start another blog when I do. I do plan to put some of the same sims in Sunset Valley soon and see what happens but I won't be emptying the town of all the sims this time. Just some of those that I don't like.

I agree Sue. I've been talking to me and PIB for the last hour. It seems if the post isn't controversial, about models, or way off topic, very few people are interested.

  3. I've just started a game where I emptied Sunset Valley first and am trying to repopulate the town starting from one couple. I won't be blogging about it this time. But now I've just hijacked this comment thread. :(

I was wondering whether it would be helpful or just more confusing to start a group blog for those of us who follow each other's stories, as a place for general updates or posting comments to each other like "I just put your so-and-so into my game called blah" that don't seem to fit anyplace else. I've read about it and it's easy to set up. It could be by invitation or open to the public, and we could all post, change the layout, etc. What do you guys think?

  4. Sounds like fun to me Sue. What do you think Lynn? I'm picturing, hey my sim met your sim in town today and ..., or I heard your sim married ....
My main problem is I don't use custom content and so many do. I'm always having to look for sims that will look like the same sims once I put them in the game. I don't want to butcher sims that someone has spent a lot of time searching for their parts and at the same time, I don't want to use custom content.

  5. Oh, wow. Check out suednim.blogspot.com and look at the family tree thingies I found. I bet there are more out there, too. I'm not sure how well they'd work for a whole neighborhood unless every family is in some way inter-related. I guess you could have one tree for each family tree. I'm going to have to make a whole neighborhood just to play with this.

  6. Hey Dee, that thing about custom content is probably part of the reason we like each others Sims so. If I make a Sim, I try to create interesting facial features and an interesting personality.

Sue, sharing a blog could be cool. I know that you can easily say users x, y and z are also allowed to edit a particular blog. If we change our minds, there are already a ton of abandoned blogs out there.

I'm going to try the family tree thing with my Sims 2 families. If it can cope with those trees, it can cope with anything.

  7. I just set up a test group blog to see if I understood how, and invited PiB. If one of you two doesn't want to set up a "real" one, we can use the one I just made. You'll have to invite everbody else, becuase PiB's was the only email address I could find.

If it works the way I think it does, we invite each other to be co-authors, and then we have complete freedom to post, edit, change templates, and anything we can do on our own blogs.

  8. Hi, I just read the recent comments. I will go with the group blog 100% but am not sure how difficult the family tree would be. Almost all the families in my game are connected in some way and I know how to do that but it can be very confusing for someone who doesn't know genealogy. Heck, it's confusing for me sometimes, and I did it for a long time. One line is easy but charts for several connected lines is a little different. I'll check out the trees this week and see what I can do. It may be easier than I think it is going to be. I do have my notes here following the lines.I just don't know if I have all the pics I need.
I'm going to be making another post on my blog in a few minutes. I decided to do some things in Sunset Valley today.

  10. Hi ladies, for what it's worth I'll add my 2 cents. I'll continue to follow all your stories in whatever place you post them. It's easier for me to follow here on your blogs because things are so well organized. I've followed your posts on the forum, but sometimes if I forget to bookmark the thread(s) it takes a while to get to your post to see what's new. Also, I know we have a small group here at the moment. Perhaps it will grow into a larger circle of like minded simmers who love sharing Sim Stories like we do. Also, I'm going to activate my email in settings. I have gained a comfort zone with all here.

  11. I didn't get the invite Sue, I don't know what happened. But I did make sure my email is attached to the profile, it's a gmail account and the spam is pretty effectively filtered.

Dee and Muleskinner should get an invite to my test group blog. :-)

I'm so glad I moved to a real blog. Authoring is better and having all of you to talk to makes it far more fun. New posts in your blogs and comments in mine make my day.

  12. If PiB has a group blog, I won't send out another invitation. It would be redundant. As Muleskinner said, I'm going to keep following all your stories wherever they are.

  13. "yet the forms and the stories section are filled with legacy stories full of horrible writing, uninteresting content and butchered English, and those are the ones with 2500 views and 267 recs."

LOL, that made me laugh. But you are so right. The language and spelling errors in some stories are just horrible!

Obviously we all make an err here or there, but some of them, good grief! LOL, there is one, where the simmer apologises at the end of every chapter for the shocking grammar and spelling. Surely by now they have learnt how to spell 'the'??
