The SV Times - Special Edition - Gnus from Home

Near tragedy struck the Kane family home late yesterday. A fire started in one of the boy's bedrooms in the upper story of their lovely two story home.

Meredith Kane had been working on a new painting in the next room. It took her some time to realize that there was a problem.

"Well," said the distraught Meredith. "I had been finishing a new painting while I was waiting to be called to for a new ghost hunting job around town. I was using a new paint called 'Fire Red'. I just thought they decided to try scenting the paint."

"You hadn't noticed the temperature rising in the room?"

"Well, because I'm a ghost hunter, I'm really attuned to dropping temperatures. That's when you know the ghost is near. Rising temperatures don't mean as much."

By the time Meredith then Jebidiah Kane had noticed the problem, the blaze was quite out of control. It burned higher and higher and engulfed much of one side of the room.

Finally the fire department arrived while Meredith and Jebidiah Kane worried over how much damage the fire would ultimately cause.

"We'll have to have some contractors in to check the integrity of the room," said Jeb Kane. "There's been some damage to the floor and the ceiling. We'll have to be certain that it's safe."

The fire chief was unable to comment on the source of the blaze. "We'll need to interview the boys, see if they know anything. I've heard that the younger one is a bit of an inventor, a few sparks caused by carelessness could have set this off. But we haven't ruled out arson at this point in time."

As evening fell, things became more normal for the family. Meredith was called by the police chief to remove some invading spirits.

"My man are trained to many sorts of danger. But few of them dare face ghosts and spirits. I called Meredith once it was confirmed that we had spooks of the non-corporeal kind."

"How did the removal go?"

"Meredith had to spend half the night but my men will feel perfectly safe in the station tomorrow. The police force must thank our local ghost hunter for her help."

Also Macy Lee announced that the science lab has engaged Jebidiah Kane as a special consultant.

"The Science Lab is pleased that Jeb Kane has agreed to act as an additional security consultant. We can confirm that he has some unique skills in this area."

"His first task will be to make the offices of The SV Times more secure. We tracked the problem with the one edition to a hacker who should not have had access to the newspaper network. I have every confidence that Mr Kane can prevent any more hackers from gaining access."

"Connor Frio agreed to pay extra?"

"Connor has been forced to admit that his network isn't secure enough. He has agree to pay for Jeb's time to properly secure the network."

Other families meet in a nice park during the day. Meredith takes her boys to a remote pond fairly late at night.

  1. I wasn't actually planning on featuring the Kanes again - or at least not so soon after the midnight meeting.

But when I found the fire - then Mere and Jeb did a synchronized fire dance followed by Mere banishing ghosts at the police station...well, they just earned this edition.

  2. Omg, Brad WOULD set the house on fire! (Though of course, he's innocent until proven guilty.) Nice update :)

  3. My, you were quick!

If Brad didn't do it, it was either an electrical fault or Jeb has something new to worry about. We may eventually find out which.

I think the Pesce family just installed properly, this blog is most likely their first home. Might be awhile before they show up.

  4. Haha, sorry about that- I had just happened to look at my blog roll and saw a new post.

Uh oh, I hope it wasn't arson!

And yay for the Pesces :) I need to figure out where to put Indiana Sammy.

  5. :) As I say, we'll see. It probably was Brad though.

Indiana Sammy as in Sam, Rachel and 5 kids? Or just Sammy?

It would be brave to drop the family in the hood. Though you can wait for them all to become children and thus a bit saner to deal with. LOL Triplets are interesting to deal with.

  6. I've got the whole family downloaded, so we shall see! I was contemplating putting them in and letting Story Progression have fun with them, or I'd start a new game on the side as I did with Brad and Alesha. That's why I'm still deliberating ;)

  7. Whichever you decide. If you ever wanted to try raising triplets, Sam and Rachel are a good couple for it. Sam's good with kids and he is a slob which is an excellent trait for someone who has a *lot* of used potties in their future. :)

The original family grew well, did a lot of stuff and left a lovely family behind. The alternate family is fair game for *anything* your heart desires.

  8. Hello, PiB! Great update.

Nice update of the Kane Family. The painting is really funny. And oh, about the fire. I wonder if Brad was the one who caused it.

  9. Haha... Why does it always seem to be the Kanes who are up to no good... ;) ;)

Considering how many times Brad set his butt on fire as a child inventing, I wouldn't be the least surprised if he started the fire. lol @ Meredith, not feeling the heat of the fire... Yeah. She's airheaded enough for that, definitely.

I'm also particularly amused that Jeb got hired as a security consultent, considering what he's been doing for the last few posts in this blog--but at least the money is probably good. Ha.

Nice to see that things are still up and happening in Sunset Valley. ;)

  10. Thanks MJ. Yeah, Meredith's painting was rather unusual.

It seems likely to have been Brad. :)

    Thanks for the comments.

  11. Well, Kaleeko, this time I don't think it was their fault. They happened to get caught up in the fire. And I was stunned to find Meredith in the next room completely ignoring the fire when I first arrived. If she'd been downstairs...but not in the next room.

Jeb's new consultancy. The girls thought a) who better to protect the computers then the guy breaking into them and b) keep an eye on him till their husbands can retire. It's only a few days away!

  12. I still love reading the gnus updates.
That fire seems a little suspicious considering there doesn't seem to be anything there to start a fire.

And about Mr. Sword; he just looks so brittle. :) Congratualtions on the new little Rock.

  13. Hey Dee, there is a fireplace in the room below. Might have been some chimney trouble. :)

Cyclone is a mere stick. Nothing but bone. I hope the kids grow up a little more like their mom.
